- Tim opens the show with a few comments about his witnessing today in a nursing home, where three people came to the Lord.
Jerome Bracely is today's guest. Jerome is the executive director of "Stepping into the Light Ministry" based in Saint Louis, a homeless shelter for men seeking help with drug and alcohol abuse. Tim met Jerome while Tim was living in St. Louis (Tim broadcast for 12 years in St. Louis). Jerome begins by talking about his early days of witnessing and meeting Tim, and handing out tracts. Jerome mentions that he has been encouraged by Tim handing out tracts.
Jerome then talks about his background, saying that in 1995 he had been into drugs and alcohol for about 15 years. At that point he joined a shelter called New Life Evangelistic Center. He said that he had hit rock bottom, and joined their two year program for homeless men. He then gave his life to the Lord and left the drug life.
During a new convert class they asked if anybody with drug problems would come up to the alter. He said he was afraid to go, and that the pastor later asked him to share what he had shared in private. He then went forward, in a situation where he was almost the only black person in a mainly white Church. He said he asked the Lord to take the drugs and alcohol away from him. After that he went home and later watched a video that kept saying "Stepping into the Light". He prayed about it and named his ministry "Stepping into the Light Ministry", and quit drugs.
He received a house as a donation to the ministry, and turned it into a shelter for men around 1995. He now has men that have been through his shelter and have been clean of drugs and alcohol for 10-15 years. Tim asks Jerome if he is able to find the men jobs in this tough economy. Jerome says he does try help them a little, but mainly helps them find temporary agencies. The shelter does have some pressing needs, and Jerome says the city is now asking him to put in a sprinkler system for the home.
Jerome's mailing address is "Jerome Bracely, 1404 Hebert St. Louis 63017", and his phone is "314-422-6337". Jerome says we will be hearing from some of the men that have been through his shelter on next week's show. (Ed: MB)
