About Tim's Broadcast & Ministry:

Tim Celebrates 40 Years of Broadcasting!

The year 2010 marked the 40 year anniversary of Tim handing out tracts and doing a radio show. Tim grew up in Grand Rapids Michigan, where his father was a Baptist preacher that led him to the Lord at a very young age. He began broadcasting in 1970 at the Moody Bible Institute radio station, WMBI in Chicago. His radio shows have been known by various names over the years, for example he was the Tim in the "Mornings with Tim and Al" radio show broadcast in the Los Angeles and San Diego area (KBRT AM-740). Readers of the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner voted Tim and Al "Top Jocks" in 1986 for the LA area.

In 1994 the "Mornings with Tim and Al" show moved to KJSL out of St. Louis, which ran until 2005. By 2007 the show was named "Love of the Lord with Tim Berends". His show continued to be broadcast out of St. Louis, Missourri, by KJSL Radio, with a show title of "Jesus and Tim in Las Vegas" until January of 2011, when it moved to www.KKVV.com in Las Vegas with the same show title.

Tim has a passion for handing out Christian tracts, and has been doing it for 40 years. Everywhere he goes he has tracts ready for any opportunity to share the Gospel of salvation by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He has shared the Gospel and handed out tracts worldwide, ranging from the gang neighborhoods of America and Mexico to terrorist neighborhoods of Ramallah (Palestinian held West Bank in Israel).

His current radio show is broadcast out of Las Vegas, and his current mission field is on the Las Vegas Strip, where he continues to hand out Christian tracts. He passes out about 300 tracts per day on the strip, where he is able to reach out to visitors from all over the world. Las Vegas receives almost 40 million visitors per year, making Las Vegas fertile ground for witnessing. Most of these visitors to Vegas have one destination in mind: The Las Vegas Strip. This is where Tim comes in, and the tracts... faithfully handing out tracts on the Vegas strip. His prayer is that some of these visitors take the tract home and teach their family and friends about the Lord.

In the last four years, Tim has been handing out 300 tracts per day, that is approximately 300 * 365 = 109,500 tracts per year. Tim will be handing out his half-millionth tract in the next year!

God bless you everybody, and share your faith in Jesus Christ with somebody today!

Tract Passing in "Sin City"

by Tim Berends

Here are some things the Lord has taught me here in Sin City (Las Vegas), as I've handed out tracts. First, I look on handing out tracts as something I get to do, not something I "have to do."

But just how difficult is it for a person to go into a library or store and put a few selected tracts into the magazines, such as Free At Last or Unforgiven? into Ebony or Jet? Here are some other ideas:

  • Put a copy of How to Get Rich (and Keep It) into Fortune or Gentleman's Quarterly (GQ).
  • Go into the autobiography section of the library or store and put This Was Your Life! following the last chapter of an individual's book.
  • Go into a foreign language section and put a particular language tract in books in that section.

Then there is the street work. The only competition I have are the folks "handing out" pictures of young women in lewd poses. I say of my tract: "It's not porn!" and many times they will take it. But you don't say that to everyone:

  • You would say that to most women, although I've had some women say, "Then I don't want it."
  • I would never say that to four college guys holding a beer. To them I would say, "This is for every Dallas Cowboys fan," if they are wearing a Dallas Cowboys tee shirt.
  • For a family with kids I might say, "Here's something you can share with the children - and by the way, it's not porn!"

A friend and I went into seven "massage parlors" here in Vegas with Chinese tracts. We never got past the head woman, but we trust the Lord that the tracts got to the young ladies, because He laid it on our hearts and He is "not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9).

There is no set way to hand out tracts. The minute you "put God in a box" by thinking He only works one way, He jumps right out! The important thing for the Christian tract-passer is to be led by God's Spirit.

Finally, I've met people who won't hand out tracts, because "I can't disciple every person I give a tract." That's where the blank space on the back of the tract comes in handy. Get a stamp with your church's name, or maybe some good websites, such as www.pro-gospel.org (a great website for Roman Catholics). The Chick Publications website, www.Chick.com, is already on the tract.

I interviewed a fellow for my radio show one time, who worked with servicemen in Southern California. I asked him about follow-up:

He said: "We have the best follow-up in the world."

I asked, "What is it?"

He said, "It's the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit can follow them to islands that we could never reach, countries we could never get to."

I thought, "How true!" We should do as much as we can and leave the results to God. Let's not leave the job of the Great Commission to our pastors! Our Lord has commanded all of us to be witnesses.

God Bless you in your endeavors to reach a lost and dying world for Christ. I look forward to seeing you in heaven and hear how God has used you. What a day that will be!

Tim.

‘Jesus and Tim in Las Vegas’

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (ANS) -- After many years working in radio all over America, I have now settled in “Sin City” – Las Vegas -- and have a weekly show called: “Jesus and Tim in Las Vegas”

Dan Wooding with Mother Teresa in Calcutta back in 1974

I wanted someone on my program for November 13, 2010, who had interviewed the cast of the zany Monty Python’s Flying Circus, also Mother Teresa in Calcutta, Johnny Cash, David Soul, Billy Graham, Ringo Starr, and even had Paul McCartney write a tongue-in-cheek song dedicated to him. I also wanted that guest to be a person who had worked for two of London’s infamous tabloids and was also a correspondent for the National Inquirer, and these days informed us about Christians who are suffering around the world and I could only think of one person -- Dan Wooding.

I also wanted to talk to someone who was 102 years old, still sings in churches, sang for Billy Graham for over 60 years, was responsible for me landing my second job in radio and was one of the most humble men I've ever met and that could only be George “Bev” Shea.

I also wanted an apologist on the program who would speak the truth without fear of reprisal and that would be Dr. Robert A. Morey, the author of over 45 books, some of which have been translated into French, German, Italian, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, Polish, and Finnish. (His website is: http://faithdefenders.com).

As you read this, you are probably wondering who I am? Well my credentials aren’t exactly stellar, at least in my earlier years.

I registered an 89 on a self scoring IQ test, was asked to leave Columbia Bible College after failing every course except choir in my freshmen year. I was kicked out of the Air Force (after 3 years and 9 months) with a General Discharge under Honorable Conditions after getting involved with the American Nazi Party when my best friends were Jews and African Americans (because they were the only ones who understood my humor) and later also was kicked out of Bob Jones University for drinking two cans of Colt 45.

However, there was a change for the good after I was almost killed in a Weatherman Bomb Factory explosion in Greenwich Village (March 6th, 1970) in New York City. (Three people were killed). It was then that I turned my life over to the Lord and through a series of miracles, I was able to land a job at WMBI Radio in Chicago. Then, after working for Billy Graham's radio station in Black Mountain N. C., and other stations, I was able to secure a job for the 700 Club (CBN) and their radio station.

Eventually, the Lord opened the door for me to work at KBRT AM 740 in Southern California, where the Lord allowed my co-host with Al Gross and I to win the Los Angeles Herald Examiner "Top Jock Contest" in 1986 for our show, “The Time and Al Show,” beating such luminaries as KIIS-FM's Rick Dee's. (Two years later the Herald Examiner went out of business).

I now host “Jesus and Tim in Las Vegas” heard over www.KJSLradio.net each Saturday at 5-7 pm (Central Time). Past programs can be heard on www.Jesusandtim.org. Please listen if you can!

I also hand out 300 gospel tracts a day to some of the 40 million visitors from all over the world who visit Vegas every year. That's 100,000 a year, 300,000 for the last 3 years. My pilot friend Mike and I (with the Lord's help) have been able to get thousands of gospel tracts into Ciudad Juarez -- the world's most violent city -- and Tijuana, Mexico, also in Israel including Ramallah, Bethlehem and the Damascus Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem (reaching Muslims). We have also been doing this in Haifa, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, reaching our Jewish friends.

It's a joy to know that God can use anybody! How about you?

The New Battle of Jericho
By Dan Wooding

JERICHO, ISRAEL (ANS) -- The Battle of Jericho was an incident in the Bible’s Book of Joshua, (Joshua 6:1-27) and was the first battle of the Israelites during their conquest of Canaan. According to the narrative, the walls of Jericho fell after Joshua's Israelite army marched around the city blowing their trumpets.

Tim Berends handing out pictures in Jericho

Now, veteran broadcaster, Tim Berends, and two colleagues, recently headed to the ancient city Jericho for a new battle – armed with Christian love. It was part of an evangelistic trip they took to Israel and was quite eventful to say the least.

“A month ago, an airlines pilot named Mike, an Iowan Grandmother named Janey, and myself, headed to Israel to hand out 4,000 tracts,” explained Berends, who now lives in Las Vegas, and broadcasts locally. “It was our goal to hand out gospel tracts from Dan to Beersheba, and of course, many other places.

“This was the fifth trip that Mike and I had taken to Israel. Janey had been with us one time previously when we had also taken Arabic tracts into Bethlehem.

“In addition to the tract called ‘Love the Jewish People,’ we also brought 200 pictures of me taken at the wax museum in Las Vegas. I was wearing my ‘I (heart) Muslims’ t-shirt and it showed me handing a wax effigy of President Obama, a copy of a tract called, ‘Allah had no Son.’ On the back the tract it says, ‘To read “Allah had no Son” go to www.chick.com.’

With a smile on his face, Berends went on to say, “We felt that handing out those pictures might allow us a little more time ‘to live’ than if we had just handed out the tract itself.

“In fact, I had been in Jericho just three months previously with another brother and, on that occasion, he wanted to hand out a tract proving that Israel owned the land. While I believe that, I also felt that if they read ‘Allah had no Son’ and got saved, then God could and would reveal to them about Israel owning the land, so I didn’t think it was wise to hand it out on that occasion.

“While we were in Jericho, on that previous occasion, one fellow did ask me if I was a Muslim, and while I was busy confessing all my sins to the Lord, realizing this could be my last minute on earth, I found myself putting my hand on his shoulder and saying, ‘No, but I love Muslims!’”

Berends then explained that pilot Mike had never been to Jericho before and “was concerned that the Muslims would throw stones at our car when they saw that we had rented it from a Jewish car rental.”

He tyen added, “When we arrived at the edge of Jericho, the guard at the gate waved us through and we drove about a mile or two to the center of the city where a rally was just breaking up. I saw several Palestinian flags being waved. We parked the car and got out and started handing out the pictures.

“One Muslim man said, ‘Are you saying Allah had no Son?’ and I replied, ‘Yes, sixteen times in the Koran it says he had ‘no Son.’ Then I noticed a group of about 15 or 20 men coming my way, so I called out ‘As-Salamu Alaykum.’ (I wished them peace, once they met Jesus) and started handing out the picture and they mobbed me for a copy!

“One fellow asked, ‘You, Obama?’, and I explained, ‘This is Obama at the wax museum,’ but didn't feel led to go into any great detail. When I had them all handed out, a woman came up to me screaming and tearing up the photo. I thought that she had possibly gone to her computer after my previous visit and read the wording of the tract.”

So with that Tim decided it was time to leave and found that their car, with Mike and Janey already in it, was just pulling out of the parking area, so Tim hopped in before, as he said, “another Battle of Jericho began!”

Berends then stated, “We had two copies of the tract ‘Allah had no Son’ with us that we gave to a couple of fellows at the gas station about a half mile away. They probably live in Jericho. There aren't many options out there in the desert!”

Then the three of them flew to Eliat, a busy port as well as a popular resort, located at the northern tip of the Red Sea, on the Gulf of Eilat (or Gulf of Aqaba).

They went on their mission to to the Dead Sea, with stops in both Ashdod and Ashkelon.

Berends told me, “We found a shopping center in Ashdod and started handing out tracts until an Orthodox Jew started coming after me. (I have noticed that more Israelis take the tracts when they see the Orthodox go ballistic over them. Maybe on the next trip we can hire an Orthodox to chase us so we can get out more tracts!)

“Then in Ashkelon, which had been bombed by the Muslims from Gaza, we found another shopping center and stopped there. I saw 11 or 12 Israeli schoolgirls walking towards me and as they got closer, I thought of the five year jail sentence there is for ‘proselytizing’ a child under the age of 18 and, then I remembered what Mike Evans is reported to have once said, ‘They're not going to put you in jail for handing a tract to a child. They don't need that kind of publicity on CNN. They might put you in jail for a couple of days.’

“So, I offered the tracts to the girls and every one of them took one. Praise God! Then I had about 10 copies of another tract entitled ‘The Promise.’” (To view it, go to: www.chick.com/reading/tracts/5004/5004_01.asp.)

Soon, however, the three of them were being grilled by an angry passerby who took great exception to the pictures they had on the tract, one of which was of a suicide bomber blowing up a bus.

“If the fellow had taken the time to read the tract, he would have seen that we were not proposing that,” Berends said. “He asked for our passports and was really interrogating us when Mike suddenly asked him, ‘Is Highway One the best route to the Dead Sea?’ With that, he went right into giving us perfect directions to the Dead Sea and we were off. Praise the Lord!

“Laster, we then went to Jerusalem to hand out tracts at bus stops where a number of our Israeli friends stood. With the Orthodox chasing us, hardly anybody turned us down,” he said. “We then headed back to Ben Gurion International Airport for our flight home.”

Berends concluded by saying, “Peoples prayers sure do make a difference! I know some would say, ‘Jews have a special covenant with God; we don't need to witness to them.’ It's a shame that Jesus wasn't aware of that when He said to the Pharisees in John 8:44, ‘You are of your Father the Devil’ or when He said to Jews in John 14:6, ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no man comes to the Father except through me.’ Romans 1:16 says the gospel goes to the Jew FIRST and THEN to the Gentile. I hope when folks go to Israel they will take gospel tracts with them.”

He then cited the words that magician Penn Jillette is reported to have said, "I'm an Atheist, but I don't have any problems with believers proselytizing because, if I were a believer, how badly would I have to hate someone not to tell them about Heaven and Hell?"

“Those words ought to be preached from every pulpit in the land!” said Berends.

Tim Berends finally asked for prayer for himself and Mike as they travel to Mexico City to hand out tracts there in the near future.

“I would love to have you pray for us and would be honored if you'd listen to me on radio. Go to www.Jesusandtim.org and click on archive,” he added.
