Today's guest is Chet Gallagher from "Personhood USA" and "Operation Save America", and has known Tim since Jan 1989. Chet is a former police officer that worked for Las Vegas metro. He got saved in 1974, a year after baby murder was legalized in the USA (Roe V Wade). He was in the Air Force at the time working as a law enforcement officer, and then went into law enforcement as a motorcycle cop after that.
Operation Rescue is an organization of thousands of people that sit in front of abortion clinics to block access. Chet was a police officer in Las Vegas, and walked to the front of a protest line at a clinic, and asked the other police to not arrest those protesting. His supervisors were "not impressed", and suspended him immediately from the force. Chet said that he knew the supervisor did not believe that babies were being killed or that there was a "murder in progress". He said that he decided to pass on his retirement and go into pro-life ministry, and was then arrested for unlawful assembly along with 40 men and other pastors. He called it the "First Unlawful Assembly of God Church".
Tim asks what should a person say to evangelicals that say that they are not concerned about abortion since the murdered babies are all going to heaven? Chet responds that "God hates hands that shed innocent blood" (Prov. 24:10-12). He has served in this ministry for over two decades. Tim brings up the new "Personhood Amendment". Chet says this morning that 30 babies were murdered at one single abortion mill in Las Vegas where they were protesting. He says that abortion is a euphemism for what really is the brutal slaughter of babies in the womb. The personhood amendment says that every single person should have their life protected. He says the real issue is when life begins and should be protected. He compares it to the lack of "personhood" during slavery in the USA, and to Hitler not recognizing the personhood of Jews.
The US supreme court said in Roe v Wade that a person had the right to due process via the amendment 14th amendment, and that if personhood could be established then a person cannot lose their life without due process. So the personhood amendment would establish a person's inalienable rights to life, regardless of whether the person is born or pre-born.
While most Democrats believe in the right to kill children, Chet says that there are a number of Republicans that are also pro abortion. He sits on the national board of Personhood USA. He says that Rich Perry, Michelle Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, and Rich Santorum signed the initiative, and a "conditional signature" from Ron Paul, while Mitt Romney did NOT sign the personhood initiative.
There are 38 states that have fetal homicide laws, with 21 of those states saying that you cannot accidentally or deliberately cause the death of a prenatal child. Others have standards for fetal homicide like "quickening" (when a woman can feel the baby inside, which is of course hard to judge as a medical term).
The personhood amendment would establish protections to life at the beginning, regardless of the state of the development (zygote, embryo, fetus, newborn, toddler, teenager ...). He says the enemy (satan) will use the argument to say that we are trying to give rights to fertilized eggs, rather than recognizing rights of a human being with their own unique DNA. Chet believes that parents need to know which methods of birth control (chemicals, devices, etc.) kill their children.
For the state of Nevada, this Personhood Initiative is a citizen led petition, that needs 72,000 signatures before being put on the state ballot. If you would like to get involved in this important movement, you can call 702-272-2279 to contact the Nevada pro-life coalition to get copies of the petition, or visit the site *** . The deadline is June 19, 2012 to get the needed 72000 signatures. If you would like to get involved in other states, then the website for the national Personhood Initiative is www.personhoodusa.com
Next week Pastor Rob Wright from Abundant Grace Church in Las Vegas will be the guest.
